StudioPro KVM DVI USB Fibre Switch

The Complete Switching and Extension Solution

The overall performance of a matrix switch is determined by the performance of its fiber optic KVM extenders, which is why the DCS StudioPRO system integrates Thinklogicals entire, industry leading, DCS matrix switch features with next generation fiber optic extension technology.

studiopro

The DCS StudioPRO system is a new, unique class of cost-effective matrix switching and KVM extension designed for a variety of small to medium sized high performance computing environments. Comprised of a fiber-in, fiber-out matrix switch and a fiber optic KVM extender (with a transmitter and receiver), this complete system provides transparent and secure, routing, switching and extension of video, high speed data peripherals. Typically suited for Apple applications, USB 1.1/2.0 or Firewire 800 peripherals can be extended and switched to multiple outputs and destinations with ease.

Matrix Switching

The DCS StudioPROs exceptional switch performance hinges on excellent design and rigid manufacturing tolerances. A single (6U) chassis co-locates video and high speed data peripherals (USB 2.0, USB 1.1) with 16 video ports and 32 data ports. This compact size greatly reduces complexity and cost by drastically lowering the number of components, connectors and interconnection cables. This full non-blocking matrix switch features broadcast (one to all) and multicast (one to more than one) connection capability. In addition, users can easily configure and control the switch with the DCS StudioPRs browser based GUI.

Video Capability

The DCS StudioPRO Extenders (SPE) allows for each video output to be isolated from each input, insuring signal integrity throughout the system, while maintaining a high level of signal routing flexibility and control. In addition, high resolution DVI video signals are supported up to 1920 x 1200. The DCS StudioPROs fiber optic KVM extenders effectively support both Single-Link and Dual-Link DVI and extend (up to 1000 meters) video source(s) while maintaining flawless, unsurpassed image quality with no frame dropping or content loss. This makes it ideally suited for post-production studios, command centers, educational facilities, control rooms, conference centers, board rooms, and any environment that needs to send multiple video and data signals to multiple output devices (or displays).

DCS StudioPRO Full Non-blocking Matrix Switch Features:

  • Broadcast (one to all) and multicast (one to more than one) connection capability
  • Any source port(s) may be connected to any destination Port(s)
  • 16 Video ports connect any video input to any video output.
  • 5 supply modules (current sharing, redundant)
  • 32 Data ports connect all non-video fibers - Supports all high speed data USB 1.1, USB 2.0, Firewire 800
  • A dedicated on-board Linux CPU (pc) module for control and administration. These cpu modules may be accessed via a network connection (browser), or a serial port for 3rd party controller (AMX, Crestron, etc.) integration

Each Unit is made up of the following modules:

  • 1. Linux cpu module
  • 2. Input (source) port module(s)
  • 3. Output (destination) port module(s)
  • 4. Fan modules and trays
  • 5. Power supply modules (current sharing, redundant) All modules and trays are hot-swappable, except the cpu

On-board diagnostics

  • Each unit has a Linux controller
  • Voltage monitoring
  • Fan speed monitoring
  • Temperature monitoring
  • S.M.A.R.T. Drive diagnostics
  • SNMP management functions
  • Complete suite of Linux administrative functions and diagnostics

Cable management

  • Fiber in and fiber out eliminates all copper cable issues associated with traditional matrix switches
  • Single fiber connection supports a complete DVI video signal
  • Fiber connection supports all non-video signals
  • Fiber connectivity may be ST or SC depending upon extender model
  • All Thinklogical fiber products use multimode fiber
  • DCS fiber connectors are LC for high density and positive lock connections
  • Copper cabling is limited to connecting source computers to Thinklogical fiber transmitters and display and desktop devices to Thinklogical fiber receivers - This permits copper cable (length) related artifacts and performance issues to be minimized

Security

  • The DCS retains no video information in any type of memory format - The DCS is a conduit for routing signals from an input port to an output port
  • Information through the switch is indecipherable without a fiber optic transmitter and receiver
  • Since the DCS routes user interface device signals, including video, in a proprietary way, there is isolation between switched signals and networks
  • Fiber optic cables are immune to EMI and RFI security concerns and eliminate electronic eavesdropping
  • Users may be grouped and given group-specific rights and permissions pertaining to computers they may switch to
  • Administrators have total access to the DCS diagnostics and may create, edit and delete users, sources, destinations and groups
  • All users must login with a unique user ID and password prior to making or breaking connections

Graphical User Interface

  • Easy to use browser-based GUI allows users to select a computer or source by name and connect to a user destination by name
  • Groups of ports may be created and switched simultaneously
  • Any individual video (and/or audio) source may be multicast or broadcast to multiple destinations. (Note: "Multicast" is defined as one source to more than one destination and "broadcast" is defined as one source to all destinations)
  • Users may be created, modified or deleted by administrator level individuals
  • Serial control is also available
